Carter’s remains will be transferred to the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., following his time lying in state at the Capitol earlier this week. After the ceremony, his remains will be taken to Plains, Georgia, for a private funeral and burial in the evening.

President Joe Biden has officially declared this Thursday as a national day of mourning in honor of Carter, who passed away at the age of 100 on December 29. As a result, all federal government offices will be closed.
