Luxury Cruise Line to Launch ‘Southernmost Hotel on Earth’
Silversea Cruises is set to extend its luxury offerings beyond the sea and into land.
The upscale cruise line plans to build a hotel in Puerto Williams, Chile, which holds the title of the southernmost city on the globe. This new hotel will have 150 rooms and aim to provide guests a cozy stop before their journeys to Antarctica, the company revealed on Wednesday.
“We are excited to improve the Antarctic travel experience by providing journeys that eliminate common challenges for travelers to this area,” Bert Hernandez, the company president, stated in a press release. “This initiative not only sets us apart from other polar excursions but also reinforces our dedication to innovation and excellence, as Silversea strives to be a leader in luxurious travel experiences.”
This new hotel will provide stunning views of the Beagle Channel and the mountains of Patagonia. Guests can enjoy a range of amenities including a restaurant, bar, lounge, and fitness center. Those booking the line’s Antarctica Bridge fly-cruise package can conveniently fly directly from Santiago to Puerto Williams, avoiding the often perilous Drake Passage.
Expected to finish construction by the end of 2025, Silversea is collaborating with a group of Chilean investors on this project. They are committed to working alongside local stakeholders to promote economic development while protecting the area’s rich cultural heritage and minimizing its environmental footprint, as stated in the release.
