Intelligence agencies report Iran’s involvement in hacking attempts on Biden-Harris and Trump campaigns

WASHINGTON – U.S. intelligence officials have stated that Iran is responsible for hacking attempts aimed at both former President Donald Trump’s campaign and the Biden-Harris campaign.

This announcement was made by the FBI, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence after Trump’s campaign reported earlier this month that certain internal documents and communications had been compromised and shared with a news outlet.

Additionally, it was reported by the Washington Post that Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign experienced an unsuccessful “spear phishing” attack that attempted to penetrate its security measures.

The intelligence agencies stated, “We have noticed a rise in Iranian activities that are more aggressive during this election season, particularly in terms of operations aimed at influencing the American public and cyber operations targeting presidential campaigns.” The statement continues, “This includes the recent attempts to compromise the campaign of former President Trump, which the intelligence community attributes to Iran.”

Furthermore, the agencies expressed confidence that Iran has “sought access to individuals associated with both political parties’ presidential campaigns through social engineering and other methods.”
