Israeli Forces Conduct Raid, Order Al Jazeera Bureau Closure in West Bank

On Sunday morning, Al Jazeera, the Qatari news channel, reported that Israeli forces invaded its office in Ramallah, West Bank, and issued a military order for its closure for 45 days.

The channel broadcast live footage showing Israeli soldiers entering the office and delivering the closure order to one of its employees, after which the live feed was interrupted.

The Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate criticized the Israeli action, describing it as “an arbitrary military decision that represents yet another violation of journalistic and media activities, which have been highlighting the crimes of the occupation against the Palestinian people.”

In May, Israeli authorities raided an Al Jazeera office based in a hotel room in Jerusalem, following the government’s decision to stop the channel’s local broadcasts, citing concerns for national security.

This raid occurs amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, coinciding with the upcoming one-year anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent conflict in Gaza.

On Saturday, Palestinian officials reported that an Israeli airstrike resulted in the deaths of at least 22 individuals in a school that was providing shelter for displaced persons in southern Gaza City. The Israeli military claimed that the strike targeted a Hamas command center.

The health ministry in Gaza indicated that many of the deceased were women and children, with the Hamas-run media office stating that among the casualties were 13 children and six women.

In a separate incident, rescue teams in Beirut were searching for individuals still missing under the debris from an Israeli airstrike that week, which targeted Hezbollah leaders and resulted in at least 37 deaths in a Beirut suburb, according to local authorities.

Hezbollah, an influential group backed by Iran, reported that 16 of its members, including a senior leader and another commander, were among those killed in what was the deadliest raid in nearly a year of conflict with Israel.
