Country Artist Jamey Johnson Faces Arrest for Drug Possession
Country music singer Jamey Johnson was arrested in Tennessee recently.
Officers from the Tennessee Highway Patrol stopped the 49-year-old “In Color” artist on Sunday in Williamson County. He has been charged with speeding and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, according to court documents reviewed by The Nashville Tennessean, part of the YSL News Network.
Johnson is now facing a Class E felony charge and could be fined up to $5,000.
YSL News has reached out to Johnson’s representatives for a statement regarding the incident.
Throughout his career, Johnson has received ten Grammy nominations and has released several albums, including “The Guitar Song” and “The Dollar.” He has collaborated with well-known artists such as Willie Nelson and Billy Ray Cyrus.
Johnson’s most recent album, “Midnight Gasoline,” was released earlier this month. One of the tracks, titled “Sober,” discusses his challenges with sobriety. In the song, he expresses, “It ain’t easy on the wagon,” and adds, “All these drinking songs we’re playing make it hard staying sober in this town.”
“I have been sober for 13 years,” Johnson mentioned in a press release from September. “I haven’t touched alcohol since 2011, and I know that could change any day.”
“Staying sober is a daily, hour-by-hour choice. I perform in bars often, where most of my friends are, but now I can enjoy my time there without drinking like before. That’s the message behind ‘Sober’.”
In a recent interview with The Nashville Tennessean, Johnson shared more about his ongoing battle with sobriety.
“I haven’t had the urge to drink in 13 years, but I’m always one sip away,” he admitted. “Making the choice to stay sober isn’t straightforward, but it is achievable.”
