Janet Jackson Claims Kinship with Stevie Wonder, Samuel L. Jackson, and Tracy Chapman
We already knew that Janet Jackson belonged to a talented family, but this revelation takes it to a whole new level.
The pop superstar, currently touring Europe for her Together Again concert series, appeared on the “BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show” on Tuesday. Host Scott Mills inquired about her famous family connections.
“I heard a rumor that you’re related to Stevie Wonder?” he asked.
“Yes, he’s our cousin,” answered Jackson, 58. “Not many people know that. He’s related to us on my mother’s side. Tracy Chapman is, too.”
She added, “So is Samuel L. Jackson.” However, Samuel L. Jackson mentioned to Wired in a 2017 interview that he does not share a family link with the Jacksons. There has been no confirmation from Wonder or Chapman regarding their relationship with the Jackson family.

Janet Jackson is, of course, the sister of the late Michael Jackson, who often collaborated with Stevie Wonder on songs like “Just Good Friends” and “Get It.” They also regularly performed together and provided backing vocals for each other until Michael’s passing in 2009.
Janet has been touring since June as part of her Together Again concert series, which began in April 2023. The tour is scheduled to conclude in Glasgow, Scotland, on October 13.
Named after her 1997 hit, this tour marks her first major tour in four years and features a playlist of nearly 36 songs, many performed as medleys. Hit songs include “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” “That’s the Way Love Goes,” “Doesn’t Really Matter,” and less frequently played tracks like “Damita Jo” and “So Excited.”
