Brazil’s First Lady Janja Lula da Silva Makes a Quip at Elon Musk During Global Summit
RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov 16 (Reuters) – Janja Lula da Silva, the first lady of Brazil, took a jab at billionaire Elon Musk during a social gathering at the G20 summit on Saturday, where she emphasized the importance of regulating social media to combat misinformation.
As she was speaking, the sound of a ship’s horn interrupted, leading her to joke, “I think it’s Elon Musk,” before asserting, “I’m not scared of you,” while hitting him with an expletive.
In response, Musk, who runs the social network X, laughed off her comments by posting an emoji of laughter. In a subsequent tweet, he remarked, “They are going to lose the next election,” referring to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
The first lady delivered her remarks at a pre-summit event in Rio de Janeiro for the G20, which will take place on Monday and Tuesday.
Musk’s social platform faced a month-long suspension in Brazil earlier this year due to his failure to appoint a local legal representative and not complying with court orders to shut down accounts accused of spreading “fake news” and hateful content.
