Commanders QB Jayden Daniels scores first career NFL touchdown on run
After nearly three quarters of play, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders scored his first NFL touchdown.
In his first start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, although Daniels had limited success with passing, he demonstrated impressive mobility. One notable moment came when he passed to Brian Robinson Jr., who sprinted 32 yards to place the ball at the Buccaneers’ 1-yard line. Daniels then executed a read option, keeping the ball himself to dash into the end zone. Following the touchdown, he celebrated with a dance alongside receiver Dyami Brown.
This score brought the game to a 23-14 advantage for the Buccaneers late in the third quarter. By the time he achieved his touchdown, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner and second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft had completed 10 out of 17 passes for 106 yards and had 11 rushes for 72 yards.
Furthermore, Daniels made history as the first quarterback from the 2024 NFL Draft class to score a touchdown this season. In contrast, top pick Caleb Williams failed to find the end zone during the Chicago Bears’ victory over the Tennessee Titans, while Daniels outscored Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix on Sunday.
