The romantic saga of “Bennifer,” which began over twenty years ago, has reached its conclusion.

On Tuesday, Jennifer Lopez, aged 55, filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, 52, in the Los Angeles Superior Court, as per documents obtained by YSL News. This day marked the second anniversary of their wedding ceremony in Georgia. TMZ and Variety have reported that the couple’s separation date is noted as April 26.

TMZ was the first to share this information. YSL News has reached out to representatives for both Affleck and Lopez for any statements.

This was Affleck’s second marriage and Lopez’s fourth. The couple had two engagements: first in 2002 and then again in 2021.

Speculation around the split arose earlier this year

Lopez’s filing follows several months of speculation from fans and media, especially as she and Affleck started making solo public appearances.

Affleck was noticeably absent from the Met Gala in New York City on May 6, where Lopez was co-chairing. Instead, he participated in a Netflix event called “The Greatest Roast of All Time: The Roast of Tom Brady” the previous night, with Lopez reportedly not in attendance.

Lopez’s filming of “Kiss of the Spider Woman” in New Jersey and Affleck’s work on “The Accountant 2” in Los Angeles also coincided with their separate appearances.

On May 16, they were photographed together for the first time in over a month, both wearing their wedding bands. However, they have since been seen together only a few times and are reportedly no longer living under the same roof.

Their connection began in 2002 on the set of the romantic comedy “Gigli,” during Lopez’s marriage to her second husband, Cris Judd.

After they ended their first engagement in January 2004, citing excessive media scrutiny, Lopez married Marc Anthony later that same year. They welcomed twins, Max and Emme, in 2008 but divorced in 2014. Meanwhile, Affleck married actress Jennifer Garner in 2005, with whom he shares three children: Violet, Fin, and Samuel. They divorced in 2018.

Lopez became engaged to baseball player Alex Rodriguez in March 2019, but they broke off their engagement in April 2021.

When Lopez and Affleck were spotted together multiple times after her split with A-Rod, rumors began circulating about a potential “Bennifer” reunion. Lopez confirmed the rekindled romance in July 2021 when she made their relationship Instagram official on her 52nd birthday.

The couple was seen together at significant events and expressing affection publicly at occasions such as the Venice Film Festival and the 2021 Met Gala.

In April 2022, Lopez announced her engagement to Affleck again, presenting a unique green diamond ring. (Affleck had proposed previously with a well-known pink diamond engagement ring two decades earlier.)

Later that year, she surprised fans by revealing in her On the JLo newsletter that she and Affleck had secretly married in a Las Vegas ceremony on July 16, 2022, describing it as “the best possible wedding we could have imagined.”

A month later, the couple celebrated their love again with a formal wedding ceremony at Affleck’s estate near Savannah, Georgia.
