Jessie Bates Gets Ready to Taunt Travis Kelce This Sunday with Taylor Swift References
Jessie Bates, the safety for the Atlanta Falcons, isn’t shy about engaging in some friendly trash talk with Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, especially when it comes to his notable girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
During an appearance on ‘The Pacman Jones Show’ podcast on Friday, two-time NFL All-Pro Bates said that bringing up Taylor Swift during the game is game on.
“I don’t listen to much Taylor Swift, but I definitely respect her achievements in the music world,” Bates mentioned with a grin. “And of course, I have respect for Travis [Kelce] as well. But once the game starts, I might get a bit heated and say some wild things to him, which might or might not involve Taylor. That’s just how it goes in sports—it’s all part of the banter.”
The Falcons are set to take on the Chiefs this Sunday evening at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Bates and his team are coming off a strong comeback victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2, where Bates made an impressive 12 tackles and snagged one interception.
Bates has had a decent track record against Kansas City. Having spent his first five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, he holds a 3-2 record (including playoffs) against the Chiefs. He played a crucial role in Cincinnati’s victory over Kansas City in the 2021 AFC Championship game, helping them secure a spot in Super Bowl 56.
The Falcons welcomed Bates to their roster during the 2023 free agency period. At just 27 years of age, he is recognized as one of the top cover safeties in the NFL and is anticipated to face off against Kelce frequently during the game. Heading into Week 3, he ranks second on his team with 18 tackles and boasts the team’s only interception.
Meanwhile, Kelce has recorded four receptions for 39 yards over two games so far this season, though he has previously excelled when Taylor Swift has been in the stands.
The upcoming game promises to be a nail-biter, as every contest between the Falcons and Chiefs this season has been tightly contested, decided by just one score each time. It looks like there will be some playful trash talk on the field as well.
