Aaron Rodgers and Damar Hamlin Swap Jerseys: Jets QB Calls Bills DB ‘Inspiration’

Damar Hamlin’s comeback to the NFL after experiencing a cardiac arrest during the 2022 season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals has inspired countless individuals, including Aaron Rodgers, quarterback for the New York Jets.

Following the Buffalo Bills’ recent 23-20 victory over the Jets on “Monday Night Football” in Week 6 of the 2024 season, Rodgers shared his appreciation for Hamlin, swapping jerseys with the young safety and writing a touching note to him during the exchange.

“You are an inspiration to me and to millions!” Rodgers expressed. “Much love, my brother!”

Interestingly, it was Hamlin who appeared to take the initiative for the jersey swap. He approached Rodgers on the field post-game, where they exchanged a few words before parting ways to their lockers.

Rodgers eventually sent his jersey to Hamlin, and images of Hamlin proudly holding Rodgers’ jersey quickly spread across social media.

Since his remarkable return during the 2023 preseason, Hamlin has participated in several jersey exchanges but was particularly excited to receive Rodgers’ jersey. He likened the feeling to being a kid on Christmas morning after the swap.

This excitement is understandable, as Hamlin, at 26 years old, likely grew up watching Rodgers, who is now 40, play for the Green Bay Packers. Hamlin would have been about 10 years old when Rodgers became a full-time starter in 2008.

During his postgame press conference, Rodgers did not address the jersey swap. Instead, he voiced his dissatisfaction with the officiating, as Adrian Hill’s officiating crew recorded a staggering 22 penalties for 204 yards during the messy divisional matchup.

Now, both players have a meaningful memento to remember this second matchup in their NFL careers. Rodgers completed 23 of 35 passes, achieving 294 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, while Hamlin recorded seven tackles and a pass breakup in the Bills’ win.
