Jimmy Carter casts his vote for Kamala Harris in the 2024 election after turning 100

Prior to celebrating his 100th birthday, former President Jimmy Carter expressed a desire to support Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. On Wednesday, he fulfilled that wish by casting his vote for the vice president.

Earlier this year, Jimmy Carter shared with his son, Chip Carter, “I’m only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris,” according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Carter Center, a charitable organization founded by Jimmy and former first lady Rosalynn Carter in the 1980s, confirmed to YSL News that he voted by mail on Wednesday.

Having recently turned 100 years old on October 1, Carter celebrated his birthday at his home in Plains, Georgia. He entered hospice care in February 2023 after being diagnosed with cancer that has metastasized to his brain since 2015.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Chip Carter’s wife, Becky, submitted Jimmy Carter’s mail-in ballot at a drop box located at the Sumter County Courthouse, near Plains.

“I think he feels good,” Chip Carter shared with the media. “It was a good morning for him and we are happy that he got it done.”

In August, Jason Carter, Jimmy Carter’s eldest grandson, informed YSL News that his grandfather is “really physically diminished” after spending more than a year and a half in hospice care. However, he has not lost interest in following the election and other global matters.

“He is definitely keeping up with American politics and the ongoing situation in Gaza. These issues are very important to him,” Jason Carter noted.

Early voting in Georgia commenced on Tuesday, with a record-breaking quarter of a million voters showing up in this pivotal battleground state. Georgia is among several key swing states this year that could impact the outcome of the 2024 election.
