In a recent interview, Jason Carter, the grandson of Jimmy Carter, revealed that while his grandfather isn’t very active these days, he remains “stubborn” after almost two years in hospice care.

During an appearance on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s “Politically Georgia” podcast, Jason mentioned that when Jimmy entered hospice in February 2023, the family was concerned he might only have days or weeks left.

However, as time has gone on, especially after celebrating his 100^th birthday in October, Jason noted that faith has played a crucial role for the Carter family. Jimmy Carter has always been open about his religious beliefs and has taught Sunday school for many years in Plains, Georgia.

“We cannot control how and when people depart this world,” Jason shared in the podcast that aired on Wednesday. “(Jimmy Carter’s) faith journey is a significant part of his life, and this too is part of it.”

“On a personal level,” Jason added, “I believe he is quite stubborn. He has never given up on anything, and he isn’t going to start now.”

Jason elaborated that there are days when his grandfather is lively and engaged, participating in conversations, including political discussions.

“But on most days, he’s not very active and tends to sleep a lot,” he noted.

Earlier this year, Jason Carter mentioned to YSL News that his grandfather was still keeping track of current events, including the Israel-Hamas conflict, particularly the situation in Gaza.

“These issues are very important to him,” he stated in August.

Following the passing of former first lady Rosalynn Carter in November 2023, Jimmy made a rare public appearance at her memorial services.

“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” Jimmy Carter expressed in a statement from the Carter Center at that time. “She provided me with guidance and support whenever I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was alive, I always felt loved and backed.”
