Santa’s Delivery Assistants: How Major Shippers Are Hiring for the Holiday Season
As the holiday season approaches, Santa Claus will have plenty of assistance with deliveries, as various shipping companies ramp up their hiring efforts.
According to strong shipping forecasts, the National Retail Federation reports that 57% of consumers plan to shop online for the holidays, expecting to spend about $907 each.
The U.S. Postal Service announced in October that it aims to deliver 60 million packages daily during this holiday season.
Here’s a look at which delivery services are looking to hire for the holiday period.
USPS
The U.S. Postal Service has revealed plans to hire 7,500 seasonal workers this year.
This is a decline from the nearly 10,000 seasonal employees recruited in 2023, attributed to a more stable workforce.
“Thanks to our Delivering for America plan, the Postal Service has gained more package processing capacity than ever before,” stated Postmaster Louis DeJoy in the announcement.
UPS
UPS announced in September its intention to hire over 125,000 employees to assist with holiday deliveries.
The hiring focuses on drivers with commercial driver’s licenses, seasonal delivery drivers, and package handlers. Current employees can earn a $250 bonus for referring new seasonal hires.
Seasonal hires will be included under the bargaining agreement UPS has with the Teamsters union, confirmed by a union representative to YSL News.
“Our seasonal roles typically commence around Brown Friday and extend through mid-January to cover the return and gift card season,” stated UPS in their message to YSL News.
FedEx
FedEx currently has various seasonal job openings listed on its website.
“Our global team is prepared to deliver during this year’s peak season. We are actively hiring for necessary operational roles in select locations and welcome anyone interested in joining FedEx,” the company noted in a statement provided to YSL News.
The company did not provide specific numbers for how many seasonal positions are being filled after a follow-up inquiry from YSL News.
