Jodie Turner-Smith Takes a Bold Turn in Joshua Jackson Divorce with Request for Spousal Support

Jodie Turner-Smith changes course in Joshua Jackson divorce with spousal support demand

Jodie Turner-Smith is now requesting that her estranged husband Joshua Jackson provide child and spousal support as they deal with their divorce.

The British actress, who initiated divorce proceedings in October 2023, submitted her support request in a Los Angeles County Superior Court filing on Monday, as indicated by court documents accessed by YSL News. Turner-Smith, aged 38, is asking the court to order Jackson to pay $8,543 per month in child support along with $28,641 monthly in spousal support, including back payments dating from when she filed for divorce.

The star of “Bad Monkey” is also seeking that Jackson cover her legal expenses and the fees for a forensic accountant, totaling $250,000.

In her original divorce papers, Turner-Smith had asked the court to eliminate any rights for either individual to request spousal support post-divorce. However, she now claims that Jackson’s refusal to “negotiate reasonably” during their case has led to increasing legal costs that justify her demand for support.

Turner-Smith and Jackson first met at Usher’s 40th birthday party in 2018 and got married in August 2019. The couple welcomed their daughter, Juno Rose Diana, in April 2020.

Turner-Smith mentioned in her court documents, “All I have ever requested in this situation is to keep my strong bond with Juno while juggling a full-time job to provide for both of us. Josh has caused my legal fees to rise and has made this situation far more complicated than necessary.”

YSL News has reached out to Jackson’s legal representative for a statement.

Jodie Turner-Smith states Joshua Jackson vowed to always support her financially

In her filing, Turner-Smith stated that she and her daughter Juno had become accustomed to a lavish lifestyle due to Jackson’s prominence in showbiz, which included traveling to over 30 countries.

Jackson, known for his roles in hit series like “Dawson’s Creek,” “Fringe,” and “The Affair,” is currently starring in ABC’s “Doctor Odyssey,” which debuted this fall.

Turner-Smith, who started her acting career in 2013, more than 20 years after Jackson, claimed that she doesn’t get as many acting offers as he does and that he has consistently earned a higher income. She also accused Jackson of prolonging the divorce proceedings, making it “nearly impossible” for her to support herself and their daughter.

“Josh promised to always be my financial backer and assured me that I wouldn’t have to worry about securing our daughter’s future if we ever parted ways because he understood how challenging it is for a Black woman and single mother,” Turner-Smith expressed. “Now, he is going back on his word and is using legal tactics to pressure me into accepting a settlement that is unfair and has no legal basis.”

Turner-Smith, who intends to buy a home in Los Angeles, revealed that Jackson claims their property in Topanga, California, is solely his, despite her contribution of $800,000 toward the down payment.

According to the filing, Jackson allegedly asked Turner-Smith to vacate their marital home in L.A. when they separated in September 2023. She has been residing in rental homes across Los Angeles, Vancouver, and London since then.

“I haven’t been able to keep up with my previous lifestyle due to my lower earnings compared to Josh,” Turner-Smith noted. “With my constant work commitments, I’m working hard to provide a stable environment for our daughter so that she can maintain a quality lifestyle with both parents.”

A hearing to discuss Turner-Smith’s request is set for March 20.
