Interested in being an extra for ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ with Adam Sandler? Here’s how to audition!
Attention Adam Sandler and golf enthusiasts in North Jersey! Next week presents a unique opportunity to be part of the sequel to one of Sandler’s most beloved films.
The casting team is on the lookout for local residents from New Jersey to join as paid extras in the forthcoming Netflix movie “Happy Gilmore 2,” as announced by Grant Wilfley Casting, Inc. There will be an open casting event on Tuesday, August 20, from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency ballroom in Morristown, New Jersey.
No prior acting experience is needed to participate in the auditions. Filming will take place in several counties, including Morris, Bergen, Essex, Somerset, and Monmouth, between September and November, according to the agency.
Extras who are part of the SAG-AFTRA union will earn $216 for an eight-hour shift, while non-union members will receive $176 for a ten-hour work period.
In May, Netflix revealed that Sandler would return to his role as Happy Gilmore, the short-tempered hockey player who becomes a golfer in the original 1996 film. The movie is frequently listed as one of Sandler’s best works and has garnered a significant fanbase within the golfing community—plus, it features a notable appearance by former “The Price Is Right” host Bob Barker.
As of now, there is no set release date for the sequel. Earlier this year, Sandler mentioned on the “Dan Patrick Show” that he and Tim Herlihy, his co-writer on the first film, are in the process of writing the script together.
“We’re busy brainstorming and writing. We have tons of ideas already,” Sandler shared in April. “Now, we just need to turn it into a movie that we’re excited for people to enjoy.”
Sandler expressed his desire to involve Drew Carey in the film, who now hosts “The Price Is Right.” Bob Barker passed away in 2023, and both Carl Weathers and Joe Flaherty, who appeared in the original film, also died this year.
“It’s unfortunate. We really loved those guys. They were such an integral part of the film and wonderful individuals,” Sandler stated. “But we are going to find a way to include them. They will somehow be part of this sequel.”
For those interested in acting who cannot make it to the casting call, there are still options to apply for a role in “Happy Gilmore 2.”
Firstly, locals can register for free by creating a profile. This profile allows applicants to respond to casting calls, receive updates on filming schedules, and choose the New Jersey counties where they would like to be involved.
Additionally, potential extras can email the casting agency at hg2@gwcnyc.com, using “NJ LOCAL” as the subject line. The email should contain the applicant’s name and phone number, a recent photo, and the counties they wish to work in. It’s essential to indicate whether they are a SAG-AFTRA member or not, and confirm they are over 18 years old; if underage, the parent’s name and the child’s age should be included.
