Watch: Josh Allen connects with Ty Johnson for an incredible TD in Bills versus Broncos
The Buffalo Bills made a strategic choice during the third quarter of their wild-card game against the Denver Broncos. Faced with a fourth-and-1 situation in the Broncos’ half, they had the option to kick a field goal, which would have given them a nine-point lead.
However, they decided to take a risk and go for the first down. Instead of allowing Josh Allen to run, as he had been doing throughout the match, they opted for a passing play.
Initially, it looked like Allen might be in trouble. He moved out to his right and seemed prepared to run after noting that his receivers weren’t available.
The Broncos’ defense was well-organized, blocking Allen’s path, forcing him to attempt a deep throw. He directed running back Ty Johnson to head towards the back of the end zone before releasing the ball.
In a remarkable display of skill, Johnson managed to catch the ball while sliding, preventing both his feet and legs from touching the rear line as he secured the reception.
Take a look at this amazing catch:
Before this touchdown catch, Johnson had only been involved in two plays in the game. He gained 12 yards on two carries but had to step up when backup running back Ray Davis left the game after sustaining a head injury earlier in the drive.
This touchdown was crucial for the Bills as it shifted the momentum in their favor. Together with Keon Coleman’s successful two-point conversion catch, it meant that the Broncos must score twice to equalize against the Bills, who had now stretched their lead to 14 points.
This play also marked the 22nd passing touchdown of Allen’s playoff career, breaking the tie with Hall of Famer Jim Kelly for the most postseason touchdowns thrown in Bills history.
Most importantly, this touchdown put the Bills on track for another wild-card victory and set them up for a matchup against the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round.
