Throughout the season, Josh Allen has dealt with a broken left hand and experienced a concerning moment with his right hand during his game against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

During the third quarter, Allen made a 7-yard scramble but was taken down by linebacker Yannick Ngakoue, which resulted in his right elbow striking Ngakoue’s helmet. After the hit, Allen stood up grasping his throwing hand and attempting to loosen it up, but shortly after, he made an errant throw on the next third down play.

During the postgame press conference, Allen mentioned that he had hit his funny bone.

“I hit the nerve in my funny bone and when I tried to throw, I couldn’t feel my hand,” Allen explained.

On the sideline, he consulted a trainer while moving his hand and throwing briefly. He then sat on the bench with a glove on his right hand but managed to stay in the game without missing any plays.

Allen’s elbow strike led to a temporary loss of feeling in his hand, but CBS’ sideline reporter Evan Washburn later indicated that it wasn’t a serious or restricting injury.

“I can’t tell if it was the elbow, helmet, or hitting the ground. I lost feeling in the funny bone, and I couldn’t feel my hand,” said Allen postgame. “It took about 5-10 minutes to get the blood flowing and activate my hand again. When it’s cold outside, the longer it stays numb, the worse it feels. It was a strange sensation, but I’m relieved it’s passed.”

Luckily for Allen, the Patriots’ offense had a prolonged drive after a turnover, allowing him ample time to ease the feeling back into his hand.

“Fortunately, it was a lengthy drive, so I was able to regain some feeling in my hand,” Allen commented. “If the offense had returned quickly, I might have missed a few plays.”

In a prior game against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13, Allen also injured his left funny bone, known medically as the ulnar nerve, stating that it felt like his hand was “on fire.”

Additionally, he underwent X-rays on his right shoulder following an unusual fall during last week’s thrilling 48-42 victory against the Detroit Lions.
