Julian Lennon has surgery following skin cancer diagnosis: ‘Fingers crossed for now’

Julian Lennon is dealing with a health issue this holiday season.

The British artist and son of Beatles legend John Lennon announced on Wednesday in a detailed post on X that he has been diagnosed with skin cancer.

Before heading to New York for a media event, the 61-year-old Lennon mentioned that he consulted his dermatologist, Dr. Tess, who had previously removed a cancerous mole from him.

He wrote, “After finishing my segment on ‘Good Morning America,’ I got an urgent message from Dr. Tess requesting that I return to Los Angeles because I had two spots on my skin, on my shoulder and forearm; one of them was Melanoma and needed immediate surgery!”

Melanoma is a skin cancer type often linked to UV (ultraviolet) exposure from sunlight or tanning devices, as noted by the Mayo Clinic. Common areas affected include the arms, back, face, and legs.

Lennon then returned to Los Angeles for emergency surgery. He reported that the operation was successful, but he hasn’t yet received the results from his biopsy.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Dr. Tess and Dr. Tim (Neavin) for arranging this surgery at such short notice and potentially saving my life again,” Lennon said. “I’m trying to remain hopeful, but we believe that Dr. Tim has really saved the day… So fingers crossed for now.”

Lennon also posted a couple of black-and-white images showing the scars from his surgery. He ended his message by urging everyone to make sure they have regular check-ups with their doctors.

“For your own sake, and for your loved ones, please see your doctor and take the necessary steps” Lennon emphasized. “I cherish life and wish to live for many more years, and this is a choice that can significantly impact your future. Wishing everyone happy holidays and a long, healthy life.”
