Gun-owner Kamala Harris remarks that ‘they’re getting shot’ if an intruder enters her home
WASHINGTON — On Thursday, Vice President Kamala Harris jokingly stated that anyone who breaks into her home would be “getting shot” during an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
During a lively livestream town hall featuring various celebrities, Winfrey expressed her surprise at Harris’s gun ownership mentioned in a recent debate with Donald Trump.
“If someone enters my house without permission, they’re getting shot,” Harris responded, laughing after her remark. “I probably shouldn’t have said that. My team will have to handle the fallout.”
As the vice president, Harris lives in the heavily guarded Naval Observatory residence in Washington, D.C.
This humorous exchange occurred while discussing gun control. Harris advocates for stronger background checks for gun purchases and supports reinstating a federal ban on assault weapons.
“Let me clarify, Oprah. I have no intentions of taking away everyone’s guns. I respect the Second Amendment,” Harris explained. “These proposed measures are just common sense.”
Harris shared that during college town halls last year, she asked students to raise their hands if they had participated in an active shooter drill at any time from kindergarten through 12th grade.
“Nearly every hand went up, and it was chilling,” Harris recalled.
