Exclusive: Kamala Harris campaign introduces ‘Athletes for Harris’

There are various groups supporting Kamala Harris, such as “Swifties for Harris,” “Cat Ladies for Kamala,” and “White Dudes for Harris.” Now, you can add “Athletes for Harris.”

The Harris campaign has announced the launch of “Athletes for Harris,” aiming to engage athletes and coaches as the campaign approaches the final weeks. This information comes from a statement shared with YSL News Sports.

The statement noted that athletes are considered trusted figures within significant voting demographics, particularly among young men, making them effective advocates for Vice President Harris and Governor (Tim) Walz. “Sporting events attract large, diverse audiences, which resonate strongly with Gen Z and younger men,” it continued.

The campaign intends to utilize these events and the influence of athletes to “organize, connect, and persuade voters,” incorporating strategies like enlisting high-profile athletes to act as co-chairs.

The initiative will be led by a team of 10 co-chairs, including Hall of Famer Magic Johnson; tennis legend Billie Jean King; Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr; two-time World Cup champion Ali Krieger; WNBA champion and Olympic gold medalist Candace Parker; Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers; South Carolina coach Dawn Staley; Paralympic swimmer Ali Truwit; NBA all-star Chris Paul; and Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Thomas Booker.

“Having recently returned from the Paralympics, I feel now more than ever the need for unity and collective voices,” stated Truwit. “Voting for Vice President Harris is a choice for kindness, inclusivity, and togetherness.”

The campaign also plans a comprehensive media outreach targeting sports fans at major upcoming events. “Athletes for Harris” will actively seek to recruit more athletes to join the effort.

In recent months, numerous groups have emerged to support Harris, reflecting a range of demographics. The “Win With Black Women Call” is seen as a pivotal aspect of this movement, with reports indicating that it attracted over 40,000 participants.

Incorporating athletes into the political landscape represents another strategy for Harris to garner support and increase fundraising.

Additionally, Harris has recently gained the endorsement of 15 Pro Football Hall of Famers, including Mel Blount, Emmitt Smith, Kellen Winslow, Andre Tippett, Marv Levy, Alan Page, Drew Pearson, Kenny Houston, Jan Stenerud, Calvin Johnson, Robert Brazile, Willie Roaf, Mike Haynes, Elvin Bethea, and Ron Mix.

“I’ve known Vice President Harris for over 25 years, and she consistently delivers on her promises,” Johnson remarked. “She will represent all individuals, regardless of race, language, sexual orientation, or political party.”

“Her performance in that debate showcased her readiness for the presidency, her intelligence, and her vision for our country. We are advancing, not retreating. All athletes, please use your influence—get involved and let your friends know about Vice President Harris’s agenda for progress. The Magic Man supports her.”
