Ralph Macchio returns as Daniel LaRusso, the teenage protagonist from the original 1984 film, now portrayed as a seasoned figure in martial arts.
Li Fong grapples with fitting in and, when a buddy is in need, he enters a karate tournament, only to realize he might be outmatched, according to the movie’s synopsis.
In the trailer, Fong’s kung fu mentor, Mr. Han, portrayed by Jackie Chan, approaches LaRusso for guidance, suggesting that Fong is akin to LaRusso as Mr. Fong was to Mr. Miyagi, the iconic teacher from the original movie.
The film appears to blend two distinct East Asian martial arts: karate and kung fu, teasing a “fusion” of styles for a climactic martial arts battle.
The ‘Karate Kid’ series and ‘Cobra Kai’ on Netflix
Macchio has built an impressive career reprising his role as LaRusso in the original trilogy, comprising “The Karate Kid,” “The Karate Kid Part II,” and “The Karate Kid Part III,” as well as in various commercials and spin-offs.
The most recent chapter, “Cobra Kai,” is available on Netflix and features LaRusso facing off against his old rival, Johnny Lawrence (played by William Zabka). Macchio even won an Emmy in 2021 for his role as an executive producer on this series.
Release date for ‘Karate Kid: Legends’
