Keanu Reeves expresses desire for ‘John Wick 5,’ but questions his knee’s readiness
Keanu Reeves is not quite prepared to dive into “John Wick” No. 5 just now.
In a recent interview with “CBS Mornings,” the veteran action actor indicated that the next chapter in the hitman saga might have to hold off until he recuperates physically.
He remarked, “You can never say never,” but added, “my knees at this moment are saying ‘Another John Wick? No way.’
While he feels emotionally passionate about another “John Wick” film, he confessed, “I’m unsure if my knees agree.”
Reeves will reprise his role as John Wick in “Ballerina,” a spinoff featuring Ana de Armas that is expected to debut in 2025. However, his role is just a brief appearance, as de Armas takes the lead portraying an assassin seeking revenge for her family’s demise.
The film, directed by Len Wiseman, is set in the timeline between “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” and “Chapter 4,” meaning Wick is still on the run and not (apparently) dead from a gunshot wound yet.
Known for being a somewhat mysterious actor, Reeves has ventured into diverse roles lately. He is also set to appear in “Good Fortune,” a comedic film coming in 2024 that marks Aziz Ansari’s debut as a director. Reeves will portray Gabriel, an angel who attempts to assist a financially troubled man (played by Ansari) discover meaning in life by swapping lives with a wealthier individual (Seth Rogen), a situation that, spoiler alert, doesn’t end well.
Fresh off the release of “Sonic 3,” the latest chapter in the popular video-game adaptation, Reeves takes on the role of Shadow, a character with contrasting attributes to Sonic. Although this role may not require as much physicality as the “Wick” series or other action films, he described the voice acting process to CBS as “exhilarating.”
“In voice acting, you don’t have your body or your eyes to help communicate,” he explained, “but it offers wonderful freedom.”
