New Research Shows Plugged Wells and Decreased Injection Rates Diminish Induced Earthquake Occurrences in Oklahoma

Wastewater injection resulting from oil and gas production in Oklahoma caused a dramatic rise in seismic activity in the state between 2009 and 2015. But regulatory efforts to backfill some injection wells with cement and reduce injection volumes have been effective in lowering the state's induced earthquake rate, according to a new study. Kerry Washington Shares Fun Tips on Pronouncing Kamala Harris’ Name at DNC Event

Kerry Washington, with help from young friends, shows DNC audience how to pronounce Kamala Harris’ name

“Scandal” actress Kerry Washington took the stage at the Democratic National Convention to teach attendees the correct pronunciation of Vice President Kamala Harris’s name.

While on stage in Chicago, Washington made a light jab at Republicans who she accuses of intentionally mispronouncing Harris’s name. Notably, former President Donald Trump has mocked her name several times, including during a rally on July 24 in Charlotte.

“I’ve noticed that some people seem to have trouble or pretend to have trouble with pronouncing our future president’s name,” Washington said. “Mistakes can happen, but disrespect is not acceptable. So, tonight, let’s get it right.”

She then introduced Harris’s grandnieces, Amara and Leila, to the audience to demonstrate the correct pronunciation.

The girls explained that the first part of her name sounds like ‘comma,’ similar to punctuation, and the second part is ‘la.’

Afterward, Washington invited the crowd to join her in chanting the name “Kamala.”

Before this fun teaching moment, she encouraged voters to view themselves as key players in the narrative of the nation.

Washington also welcomed her “Scandal” co-star Tony Goldwyn, who portrayed President Fitzgerald Grant, to lead a chant proclaiming, “When Kamala wins, America wins.”

Not solely Republicans: Bill Clinton also mispronounced Harris’ name on night 3

On a Wednesday night endorsement address, former President Bill Clinton accidentally mispronounced Kamala Harris’s name during his speech. Although he initially said it correctly, he later referred to her as “KAmahla” instead of the correct “KAHmala.”

Clinton also commended President Joe Biden for instilling a renewed sense of pride within the Democratic Party since his inauguration in 2020.

He further criticized the economic policies of Republicans and called out Trump for including fictional references such as Hannibal Lecter in his speeches.

“When you make statements to other nations, they need to understand that you’re sincere about your beliefs,” Clinton remarked. “What do you think they make of the constant allusions to the fictional character Hannibal Lecter?”
