Southwest Airlines introduces $49 fares for your first adventure of 2025

Southwest Airlines has welcomed the new year by offering one-way tickets starting at just $49 on select routes.

This promotional event also includes discounts on cruises, car rentals, hotels, and vacation packages.

“We are thrilled to assist our customers in planning their next journey by providing them with special travel offers across our flight, car rental, hotel, and vacation options,” stated Jennifer Bridie, Vice President of Marketing at Southwest Airlines. “We ensure all our promotions deliver the flexibility and value our customers appreciate. This week, we are making it easier to start your travel plans for the year ahead.”

When can you book Southwest’s discounted fares?

Tickets starting at $49 one-way can be bought until 11:59 p.m. PT on Thursday.

The promotional prices are applicable for flights from January 28 to May 7 for destinations within the continental U.S. and interisland Hawaiian flights, and from January 28 through May 22 for trips between mainland U.S. and Hawaii or San Juan, Puerto Rico. Notable blackout dates include February 13-23 and March 7 to April 27, although not every blackout date will affect all routes in both directions.

Discounted fares are mainly available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for flights within the continental U.S. and interisland Hawaiian routes, while there are more varied daily options for flights from the mainland to Hawaii and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Upcoming changes for Southwest

Southwest Airlines, known for its open seating policy, is preparing to modify this approach and introduce added legroom seating later this year. Although the airline has not disclosed an exact date, they indicated in the fall that these changes are expected to roll out in the latter half of 2025.
