Florida’s Lake Mary Claims Little League World Series Title Against Chinese Taipei with Walk-Off Bunt in Extra Innings
The final play of the 2024 Little League World Series was not your typical game-winner; it wasn’t a home run, a dramatic throw at the home plate, or a critical strikeout.
It was actually a simple bunt.
In a tightly contested extra inning of the championship match, Lake Mary’s Hunter Alexander executed a bunt down the first base line. The intention was to move his teammate, Lathan Norton, from second base to third without any outs, but the outcome was unexpectedly dramatic.
Chinese Taipei’s pitcher, Chiu Wei-Che, dashed to gather the ball but misfired as his first baseman unexpectedly left the base unguarded. This miscommunication resulted in a thrown ball heading to an empty base, allowing Norton to score and secure a thrilling 2-1 victory for Lake Mary.

This run marked the first lead for Lake Mary in the entire game, having been behind 1-0 for the majority of the match until DeMarcos Mieses, in a tense situation with two outs left, tied the game with a bloop RBI single to left in the bottom of the sixth.
This championship title is a historic achievement as it is the first for any team from Florida in the Little League World Series.
