Layne Riggs injures himself while celebrating his first NASCAR Truck Series victory

WEST ALLIS, Wis. – On Sunday, Layne Riggs secured his maiden trophy in the NASCAR national series, but he found himself unable to carry it afterwards.

In his excitement, Riggs dislocated his right shoulder while performing a fist pump.

“I’ve experienced this before, but never in victory lane,” the 22-year-old reflected after clinching his win at the LiUNA! 175 Craftsman Truck Series race at Milwaukee Mile. “I think this is the ninth time my shoulder has dislocated. It happens with quick, jerky motions. I got a little too thrilled.

“I’m doing okay now, and I’ll take care of the pain later tonight.”

Riggs has received some cautionary advice: these injuries tend to worsen with age.

“It’s usually just little, unexpected movements,” he explained regarding his past eight incidents. “I just lifted my hands in celebration, and somehow it dislocated. I’ve done it at the racetrack and even when reaching for items in a cabinet. It happens at the most bizarre times. It hasn’t occurred in a couple of years, but right now, that’s the least of my worries.”
