LL Flooring has filed for bankruptcy and will shut down 94 stores. Here’s the list.
The home improvement store, which was formerly recognized as Lumber Liquidators, is closing almost 100 locations while keeping 300 in operation. The company is based in Richmond, Virginia and has entered chapter 11 bankruptcy.
LL Flooring has revealed its plans to close 94 stores across over 30 states as it has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The retailer, previously known as Lumber Liquidators, disclosed a long-term debt amounting to nearly $110 million in documents submitted to Delaware bankruptcy court on Sunday.
According to the filings, LL Flooring cited declining home sales and increasing interest rates as factors that have hindered sales growth in the home improvement sector. The company will continue to operate its remaining 300 stores.
Additionally, LL Flooring announced that it will halt the acceptance of gift cards in all its stores, including those that will remain open, starting on September 4 as part of the bankruptcy proceedings. Gift cards also cannot be converted into cash. The company currently has about $131 million in unredeemed gift cards.
LL Flooring indicated in the bankruptcy filings that it has been searching for a buyer and is open to considering offers to close additional stores if a buyer isn’t located.
“We are engaged in negotiations with potential buyers and intend to assess any binding bids under court supervision to ensure the best outcome for all our stakeholders,” LL Flooring communicated in an update to its customers. “While the situation may evolve, we’re currently expecting to conclude a sale by the end of September if we find the right buyer.”
The company has secured $130 million in financing under the Chapter 11 provisions, sourced from existing lenders led by Bank of America.

Former Lumber Liquidators’ latest retailer closes locations
LL Flooring is the most recent among various retailers that have shut their doors.
Big-box discount retailer Big Lots announced they might close up to 315 stores this month, as stated in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Big Lots indicated that some of their stores are marked for closure on the respective location’s information page, but they have not disclosed a specific list of affected stores.
According to The Columbus Dispatch, which is part of the YSL News Network, Big Lots has identified 293 locations as “closing soon.”
“In 2024, the U.S. economy continues to face significant macroeconomic issues, including high inflation, which has negatively affected our customers’ purchasing power,” said Big Lots in their filing.
The company reported a decline in sales of over 10% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period the previous year, which concluded in May.
