New Research Shows Plugged Wells and Decreased Injection Rates Diminish Induced Earthquake Occurrences in Oklahoma

Wastewater injection resulting from oil and gas production in Oklahoma caused a dramatic rise in seismic activity in the state between 2009 and 2015. But regulatory efforts to backfill some injection wells with cement and reduce injection volumes have been effective in lowering the state's induced earthquake rate, according to a new study. Dealers will replace the affected engines, if necessary, at no cost following an engine cycle test. Owners will receive notification letters starting October 7, and can reach out to Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall number: 24S55).

Acura issues recall for electric SUVs to fix brake system

Acura is recalling 4,174 units of its 2024 Acura ZDX All-Wheel Drive electric SUVs due to a potential issue where the anti-lock brake system (ABS) could engage unexpectedly, releasing brake pressure.

This problem may occur under specific conditions, particularly when driving below 25 mph on dry surfaces, leading to inadequate braking and increasing the likelihood of a crash, as stated in the NHTSA report.

The solution involves updating the electronic brake control module software, which can be done through an over-the-air update or at a dealership, free of charge. Owners will receive notification letters on September 23, 2024, and can contact Acura customer service at 1-800-382-2238 for more assistance. The recall number for Acura is UJE.

Jaguar recalls electric vehicles over battery concerns

Jaguar is recalling 2,760 units of its 2019 Jaguar I-Pace electric vehicles due to potential overheating issues with the high-voltage battery.

Previous updates with enhanced diagnostic software from an earlier recall do not fully safeguard against the risk of thermal overload, and owners should have this new remedy implemented, according to NHTSA. Such thermal overload could potentially lead to fires or smoke, endangering vehicle occupants and bystanders, as well as causing property damage.

Owners are urged to park and charge their vehicles safely until the issue is resolved.

Stay clear of all structures while awaiting the completion of the recall repair and for an additional 30 days post-repair. As a temporary measure, dealers will upgrade the software of the battery energy control module at no cost to the owners. The final solution is still in progress. Notifications to owners are anticipated to be sent out on October 18, 2024.

For inquiries, owners can reach out to Jaguar customer support at 1-800-452-4827. The reference number for this Jaguar recall is H514.

Audi recalls electric SUVs due to faulty brake assembly

Volkswagen has initiated a recall for 206 units of the 2019 Audi E-Tron Quattro electric SUVs due to a potentially incorrect assembly of the fastener linking the brake pedal to the brake booster, which could lead to the brake pedal coming loose from the brake booster.

If a full detachment occurs, the vehicle will only be able to use the emergency braking feature, which significantly raises the risk of a collision, as reported to the NHTSA.

Signs of this issue include unusual noises or the brake pedal failing to return to its resting position after being pressed and released. Volkswagen advises owners to refer to the owner’s manual for details on utilizing the emergency brake feature.

Dealers will change the brake booster without any cost. Notification letters to owners will be mailed on October 18, 2024. Audi customer service can be reached at 1-800-253-2834. The recall number for Volkswagen is 46P6.
