Current Mandatory Evacuations Due to California Wildfires: Updates on Lilac, Palisades, and Eaton Fires
Evacuation notices are in place around San Diego as multiple fires, including the Lilac Fire, erupted overnight.
Evacuation notices are currently active near San Diego following the outbreak of at least three fires in northern San Diego County overnight, including the Lilac and Pala fires, which have expanded to 50 and 30 acres, respectively, with no containment reported as of Tuesday morning.
The Lilac Fire has prompted several rounds of evacuations in Bonsall, a community roughly 45 minutes north of San Diego. An urgent alert from Cal Fire issued before 5 a.m. declared, “Immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to LEAVE NOW. Access to the area is legally restricted.”
A post on social media by Cal Fire on Tuesday morning indicated that the Lilac Fire is burning near I-15 just north of West Lilac Road. The fire has reached 50 acres and continues to grow at a “moderate rate of spread,” according to Cal Fire, which stated that firefighters are focusing on “life safety and structure defense.”
In Los Angeles County, two severe wildfires have already destroyed over 10,000 structures and claimed at least 27 lives, continuing to threaten the region. Officials are concerned that red flag warnings could lead to the Palisades and Eaton fires spreading or new fires igniting.
The Pala Fire in San Diego is also uncontained, currently affecting 17 acres, although evacuation orders there have been lifted.
Hurricane-force winds were reported across San Diego County on Monday night and into Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service recorded a wind gust of 89 mph in the San Diego mountains around 9 p.m.
