New Research Shows Plugged Wells and Decreased Injection Rates Diminish Induced Earthquake Occurrences in Oklahoma

Wastewater injection resulting from oil and gas production in Oklahoma caused a dramatic rise in seismic activity in the state between 2009 and 2015. But regulatory efforts to backfill some injection wells with cement and reduce injection volumes have been effective in lowering the state's induced earthquake rate, according to a new study. Mariners Set to Part Ways with Manager Scott Servais Amid Struggles

The struggling Mariners are set to part ways with manager Scott Servais

The Seattle Mariners are on the verge of their second managerial change in the 2024 MLB season, all while they continue to compete for a playoff position.

Reports indicate that manager Scott Servais is likely to be dismissed from his position on Thursday, as confirmed by a source familiar with the situation who spoke to YSL News Sports anonymously since the official announcement is pending.

This season under Servais, who is 57 years old, the Mariners led the AL West division by as much as 10 games earlier but are currently trailing the leading Houston Astros by five games.

According to The Athletic, former Mariners catcher Dan Wilson, who played from 1994 to 2005, is anticipated to take over as interim manager for the remainder of the season.

Servais, who also played as a catcher in the majors for 11 seasons, has coached the Mariners for the last nine years. Unfortunately, he only secured one trip to the playoffs in 2022.

This season was viewed as a promising one for the Mariners. After a victory in Cleveland on June 18, the team had a solid record of 44-31 and led the division by 10 games. However, their performance has declined sharply since then, losing 33 out of their last 53 games, bringing them back to a .500 record.

Servais finishes his Seattle tenure with a record of 680 wins and 642 losses, resulting in a .514 winning percentage.

His firing comes just weeks after Pedro Grifol was also let go as manager of the Chicago White Sox on August 8.

Wilson will step in as interim manager starting Friday when the Mariners commence a three-game series in San Francisco.
