GM, Ford, Daimler Truck, Kia among 653,000 vehicles recalled: Check car recalls here

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced several recalls last week, affecting nearly 450,000 General Motors vehicles, which include new models of Escalades and Tahoes, due to a malfunctioning low brake fluid warning.

If you want to check if your vehicle is among those recalled, you can look at YSL News’s automotive recall database or search NHTSA’s database. The NHTSA site allows you to search recalls using your vehicle identification number (VIN).

Here’s a summary of vehicle recalls reported by NHTSA between September 15 and September 21.

Kia recalls EV9 due to smart parking assist error

Kia is recalling 12,400 of its 2024 EV9 vehicles. According to the NHTSA report, the automaker stated that “a software glitch may cause the remote smart parking assist feature, which allows the operator to move the vehicle from afar, to misjudge stopping distances.” This miscalculation could potentially raise the risk of a collision, the report indicated.

To remedy the issue, dealers will install a free update to the integrated electronic brake software. Recall letters will be sent out by October 18. Owners can reach out to Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542, and the recall number is SC324.

Daimler Truck recalls due to brake light issues

Daimler Truck is recalling 16,889 vehicles that may have “upfitted with a body lighting interface controller and replacement brake lights,” as noted in the NHTSA report. The truck manufacturer stated that the brake lights “might not turn on when brakes are auto-applied during an active brake assist situation.” When the brake lights don’t function, drivers may not be properly informed that the vehicle is slowing, increasing the collision risk.

To address this issue, dealers will provide a free software update for the active brake assist system. Recall letters should reach owners by November 9. They can contact DTNA customer service at 800-745-8000 and reference recall number F1009.

  • 2024-2025 Freightliner 108SD
  • 2022-2025 Freightliner 114SD

Ford recalls

Mavericks due to rearview camera problems

Ford is recalling 144,516 of its 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles that come with a Connected Touch Radio. According to the NHTSA report issued Thursday, the “rearview camera image could freeze while the vehicle is in reverse.” This malfunction can limit the driver’s view and elevate the chance of an accident, the report explained.

To resolve the issue, dealers will upgrade the Connected Touch Radio’s software at no charge. Recall letters are expected to be sent by September 30. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332; the recall number is 24S59.

Affected vehicles:

  • 2022-2024 Ford Maverick

F-150 for flickering parking lights

Ford has announced a recall of 16,543 units of its 2022 F-150 models.

According to a report from the NHTSA, “the vehicle’s parking lights could flicker when the headlights are turned on.” This issue can impair a driver’s visibility, potentially leading to accidents.

The NHTSA stated that the F-150 does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, which pertains to ‘Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.’

To fix the issue, Ford dealerships will replace the LED driver module at no cost. Notification letters regarding the recall are set to be sent out on October 7. For questions, customers can reach Ford’s customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 24C30. It’s important to note that these vehicles were already recalled for the same issue under the number 22V-686, and they will require the new fix as well.

General Motors Recalls

Canyon Vehicles Due to Flickering Headlights

General Motors is recalling 13,241 units of the 2024 GMC Canyon. The NHTSA’s report indicates that “headlights might flicker while the vehicle is in motion or when it’s parked.” This flickering can hinder driver visibility and heighten the chance of a crash.

The NHTSA also highlighted that the GMC Canyon doesn’t adhere to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, related to ‘Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.’

Dealers will replace a module within the headlights at no charge. Owners should expect recall notification letters to be mailed out on October 28. For inquiries, they can contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, using recall number N242468880.

Escalades and Tahoes Due to Non-Functional Low Brake Fluid Warning

General Motors is issuing a recall on 449,671 vehicles, which includes several new-model Escalades and Tahoes, because of a malfunctioning low brake fluid warning light, representing a safety risk.

According to a recall from last week by the NHTSA, GM detailed that the software in the electronic brake control module for certain SUVs and pickup trucks might not trigger a warning light when brake fluid is low.

Without the warning light, owners may drive with low brake fluid, leading to decreased braking effectiveness and increased risk of accidents.

The “Electronic Brake Control Module” software will be updated through an over-the-air update or via a dealer, free of charge.

Recall notification letters are anticipated to be sent by October 28, as reported by the NHTSA.

Owners whose vehicles are affected are encouraged to reach out to their local dealership for further information.
