Dearborn Sausage Company, Inc., which produces various meat items such as sausages, franks, ham, turkey, jerky, and deli meats, announced a recall of almost 2,000 pounds of its products due to undeclared allergens, as reported by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Thursday.

The recall notice details that labels for two ready-to-eat (RTE) wiener products were mixed up, causing the allergens soy and pork to be missing from the packaging. Soy is a known allergen, making this a serious issue.

Dearborn learned about the labeling conflict after a retailer reported that some beef wiener products were incorrectly labeled as containing beef and pork, and vice versa. Specifically, packages incorrectly marked as “beef and pork” actually contain soy, which is not listed in the nutrition facts; meanwhile, those mislabeled as “beef” also contain pork.

This company, based in Michigan, indicated that the affected products were distributed to retail outlets in Ohio.

Which Dearborn Sausage Company Products Are Being Recalled?

The USDA states that around 1,944 pounds of ready-to-eat wiener products produced on August 7, 2024, are included in this recall. The specific recalled items are:

• 2-pound vacuum-sealed packages of “BROOKSIDE BRAND FULLY COOKED NATURAL CASING BEEF WIENERS” which may contain undeclared pork, with lot code A0122024 and a sell by date of 11/05/2024.
• 2-pound vacuum-sealed packages of “BROOKSIDE BRAND NATURAL CASING FULLY COOKED WIENERS” that may have undeclared soy, with lot code A0322024 and a sell by date of 11/05/2024.

The affected items have the establishment number “EST. 10002” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
