Recall of Over 500K Space Heaters Sold on Amazon and TikTok Due to Risk of Fires and Injuries

Federal regulators announced on Thursday that more than 500,000 space heaters available on Amazon are being recalled over safety concerns.

The GoveeLife and Govee Smart Electric Space Heaters risk overheating, which can potentially result in fires and burns, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Approximately 512,500 units were sold in the U.S. and around 48,600 in Canada.

Tests revealed that these smart electric space heaters do not meet the “voluntary industry safety standard, UL 1278,” indicating an overheating and fire hazard due to their wireless control features.

The commission has received 113 reports of overheating incidents, which include seven reports of fires and one minor burn injury.

Which Space Heaters Are Being Recalled?

The affected smart electric space heaters were sold online through Amazon.com, the Govee website (https://us.govee.com), the Govee Home App, and TikTok Shop from September 2021 to 2024, with prices ranging from $30 to $150.

To identify the recalled units, check for the following model numbers located on the manufacturer’s label on the underside of each heater:

  • H7130 (including the H7130101 variant)
  • H7131
  • H7132
  • H7133
  • H7134
  • H7135

The name “GoveeLife” or “Govee” can also be found on the front or side of the heaters.

Available in black and white, these space heaters are between 9 inches and 26 inches tall, depending on the specific model.

Steps to Take if You Own a Recalled Heater

Customers should stop using the recalled heaters immediately and reach out to the companies for a refund.

To proceed, “unplug the electric space heater, cut the power cord, and send a photo of the damaged heater, along with the manufacturer’s label and serial number from the bottom or side of the unit to GoveeLife or Govee via the link https://recall.goveelife.com/heater-recall,” according to the recall notice.
