Massive Recall of Space Heaters on Amazon Due to Fire and Electric Shock Risks

Thousands of space heaters sold on Amazon recalled due to electric shock and fire risks

The affected heaters were available for purchase online in the U.S. at Amazon.com from August 2024 to October 2024, priced around $90.

A space heater that was sold on Amazon has been recalled because it could potentially cause an “electric shock,” which might lead to a fire risk, as announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Thursday.

Approximately 7,780 units of the Vornado VH2 Whole Room Heaters, marked with “JUL24” or “AUG24” date codes and labeled as “TYPE VH2” on the silver rating label found on the bottom of the heater, are part of this recall, according to the agency.

The heaters are an off-white color and feature a thermostatic temperature control, either an automatic or continuous fan operation, and two heat settings. The name “Vornado” appears on the front of the unit with a red “V” behind it. The recall specifically applies to models with “JUL24” or “AUG24” date codes, as stated by the CPSC.

The issue arises because the power cord can partially disconnect from the heater, which over time can cause damage to the cord and present risks of electric shock and fire.

Which space heaters are subject to the recall?

  •  Vornado VH2 Whole Room Heaters TYPE VH2 with JUL24 date code.
  •  Vornado VH2 Whole Room Heaters TYPE VH2 with AUG24 date code.

When and where were the recalled heaters sold?

The heaters were available for purchase online in the U.S. at Amazon.com from August 2024 to October 2024 and were priced around $90. They were produced by Vornado Air LLC, located in Andover, Kansas.

What actions should consumers take now?

The CPSC advises consumers to cease using the recalled heaters immediately and to reach out to Vornado to verify if their heater is affected by the recall. The company will provide instructions on how to obtain a free replacement.

Consumers can contact Vornado toll-free at 844-205-7978 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, or can email vh2recall@vornado.com.
