Revolutionary AI System Makes Strides in Rapid Detection of Toxic Gases

Researchers have developed an AI-powered system that mimics the human sense of smell to detect and track toxic gases in real time. Using advanced artificial neural networks combined with a network of sensors, the system quickly identifies the source of harmful gases like nitrogen dioxide that poses severe respiratory health risks. Volvo, Ram, and Ford among 252,000 vehicles recalled: Check the latest car recalls here

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a series of recalls last week, including a major recall for over 126,000 Volvo trucks due to issues with their electronic control units.

Wondering if your vehicle is affected by any recalls? If your car isn’t on the list below, you can use YSL News’s automotive recall database or visit the NHTSA’s database to check for updates. The NHTSA website allows you to search recalls using your vehicle identification number (VIN).

Here’s a summary of the recent vehicle recalls reported by the NHTSA from October 27 to November 2.

Ford Recall

Concern over blank instrument panels

Ford is recalling 6,212 of its 2024 Mustang models. According to the NHTSA, “the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) may fail to light up at startup or while driving.

If the instrument panel does not display warning indicators or vehicle speed, it could increase the chances of a crash, the report states.

Moreover, the 2024 Ford Mustang does not meet the standards set by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 101 for ‘Control and Displays’ and 102 for ‘Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect.’

Dealers will provide free updates to the instrument panel cluster software. Recall notifications are expected to be mailed out by November 11. For more information, owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, quoting recall number 24C35.

Rearview camera display issues

Ford is also recalling 24,950 vehicles due to a problem with the rearview camera display. The NHTSA report specifies that “water may enter the Tailgate Park Assist Sensor Interface Module (TPASIM), leading to intermittent camera display issues or the image appearing blue or black.”

This could reduce visibility for the driver, increasing the risk of accidents, according to the report.

To rectify this, Ford dealers will replace the tailgate camera, wire harness, and TPASIM module and will update the Image Processing Module A (IPMA) software at no charge. Recall notifications are expected to be mailed by December 9. Owners are encouraged to reach out to Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall number 24S66.

Stellantis recall for electronic stability control issues

Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, is recalling 33,777 units of its 2025 Ram 1500 trucks. According to the NHTSA report, “the front wheel hub encoder rings could be damaged, disabling the electronic stability control system.”

The lack of a functional electronic stability control system can increase the risk of a crash, as noted by the NHTSA.

Additionally, the Ram 1500 does not meet the standards outlined in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 126 regarding ‘Electronic Stability Control Systems.’

To address this issue, dealers will inspect the front wheel bearing hub assembly and replace it if necessary, all at no cost. Recall notifications are expected to be sent by December 19. For more information, owners can contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403, referencing recall number 97B.

Mack Trucks recall for control unit issues

Mack Trucks has issued a recall for 60,450 Anthem, Granite, TerraPro, and Pinnacle models that feature Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU).

According to a report from the NHTSA, “electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may lead to the ECU processing commands incorrectly or failing entirely.”

This malfunction may impair safety systems relying on the ECU, significantly increasing the chance of an accident.

Dealers will provide free reprogramming of the ECU software. Recall letters are expected to reach owners by December 13. For more information, drivers can reach out to Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177, using recall number SC0472.

Models affected by the Mack Trucks recall (60,450):

  • 2020-2025 Anthem
  • 2020-2025 Granite
  • 2020-2025 TerraPro
  • 2020-2025 Pinnacle

Volvo Recall for Control Unit Issue

Volvo has announced a recall affecting 126,649 of its trucks that are also fitted with the Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU).

The NHTSA report indicates that “electrical noise and a weak signal to the power line carrier could potentially lead the ECU to misinterpret commands or cease functioning.”

As a result, safety systems reliant on the ECU may either lose their effectiveness or function inadequately, thereby raising the likelihood of crashes.

To correct this issue, dealers will reprogram the ECU software at no cost. Recall notifications are projected to be sent out by December 13. Volvo Trucks customer service can be reached at 1-800-528-6586, with recall number RVXX2409.
