Before you head out, make sure to inform your colleagues or clients that you won’t be available to answer emails or messages! Many organizations rely on messaging tools such as Teams or Slack, making it convenient to start there when setting your out-of-office alert.

What does OOO signify in the workplace?

OOO means “out of office.” This phrase can be used when you’re taking time off, traveling, or briefly stepping away from work. OOO messages automatically let people know that you won’t be replying or may take longer to respond.

 

Steps to set out of office in Outlook and Teams

If you are using Microsoft software, setting up your out-of-office message in Teams is quite straightforward:

  1. Click on your profile icon in the top right corner of the app.
  2. Select Set status message.
  3. Choose Set out of office message.
  4. Enable the setting.
  5. Enter your personalized out-of-office message.
  6. Click Save.

 

You also have the option to send the message during a specific timeframe or create different messages for individuals outside your company.

 

  1. Select Tools from the menu bar.
  2. Click on Automatic Replies…
