Matt Pinfield, radio personality and former MTV VJ, hospitalized after a major stroke
Matt Pinfield, a well-known TV and radio figure, was admitted to the hospital earlier this month due to a serious medical emergency.
The 63-year-old ex-MTV VJ experienced a “massive stroke” on January 6, as revealed in court documents obtained by YSL News. His daughter, Jessica Pinfield, filed a petition on Monday in the Los Angeles County Superior Court to seek temporary conservatorship over her father due to his health complications.
According to Jessica Pinfield’s petition, her father is deemed “incompetent to make health and/or financial decisions and to pay bills” following the stroke.
It has been reported that Pinfield has stayed in the hospital since this health crisis, as confirmed by a representative for the radio host to Variety and Billboard.
YSL News has contacted Pinfield’s representative for comments.
On the day of his stroke, Pinfield posted a photo on Instagram that seemed to feature him at work, sitting before a camera.
He expressed his gratitude in the post, stating, “Starting another week with gratitude for a life surrounded by great people, life-changing music, and unforgettable experiences that I never take for granted. (Here’s) to another week—another day—with an open heart and open mind. Let’s rock!”
Jessica Pinfield is asking to be appointed as the conservator for both her father’s personal care and estate, as indicated in the petition. His assets are estimated to be worth around $1 million.
A court hearing regarding the proposed conservatorship is scheduled for February 6 at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse.
After a decade of working as a DJ and on-air personality in New Jersey, Pinfield became the host of MTV’s “120 Minutes” in 1995, leading the alternative music show from 1995 to 1999, and then again from 2011 to 2013.
He has also hosted numerous other MTV shows, including “MattRock,” “Pinfield Suite,” “Pinfield Presents,” “Rocks Off,” “Say What?” and “MTV Live.”
The SoCal Sound 88.5 FM, the Los Angeles radio station where Pinfield currently DJs, offered a warm shoutout to him in a Facebook post on January 7, stating: “We fully support Matt and hope to have his energetic rock n’ roll knowledge back on the air soon.”
