The upcoming “Bachelor” is a well-known contestant from Jenn Tran’s season of “The Bachelorette.”

Grant Ellis, a day trader who is 30 years old and resides in Houston, has been named the lead for Season 29 of “The Bachelor,” following his departure during the rose ceremony on Monday’s episode of “The Bachelorette.”

Grant will be the second Black man to take on the lead role in “The Bachelor,” with the first being Matt James in June 2020. His season is anticipated to premiere in January 2025 on ABC.

A former college basketball player, Grant played for both Iona University in New York and Albertus Magnus College in Connecticut. His profile on “The Bachelorette” described him as “a mama’s boy who enjoys poetry and reading.” Additionally, Grant has interests in watching the Lakers, going bowling, and belting out songs at karaoke.

Although Jenn referred to Grant as “very much my type,” saying “He’s hot, he’s hot, and he’s also hot” during the show’s premiere, she ultimately felt she couldn’t envision herself going to meet his family in the subsequent week’s hometown dates.

Grant was let go alongside Spencer Conley during the latest rose ceremony. Prior to this, Jenn’s first-impression rose recipient, Sam M., was eliminated after a controversial stint on the show.

What we know about Grant from ‘The Bachelorette’

In Episode 5 of “The Bachelorette,” Grant’s patience was rewarded with a personal one-on-one date with Jenn.

During their time in New Zealand, after enjoying a horseback ride, Grant shared his story about his father struggling with addiction throughout his life—a fact he didn’t discover until he was older. Before filming “The Bachelorette,” his father lost his job and tried to make excuses, prompting Grant to give him a dose of reality: “I don’t  care.”

Grant recounted, “This is, like, the proudest I’ve ever been of my dad. He called me the next day and said, ‘I’m checking into rehab.'” They talked, and his father expressed, “This is the first time that you know the real me, when I’m not intoxicated.’ So I’m fully focused on that and now he’s approaching two months sober.”

He later added, “My goal in life is to be the man my father wasn’t.”

Grant first caught the attention of Bachelor Nation with a fun beatboxing exit from the limo during Jenn’s “Bachelorette” premiere last month.

While introducing himself, he sang, “It’s nice to meet you; my name is Grant. We’ll make all these guys envious because at the end of this show, we’ll change your name to Mrs. Ellis.”

In his introductory segment, Grant mentioned that he hails from New Jersey and has been playing basketball since he was 8 years old. After his collegiate career at both Iona University and Albertus Magnus College, he took his skills overseas before an unspecified injury led to the end of his basketball career.

He stated, “But when life brings challenges, you have to be ready to adapt. So, I ventured into finance, and it’s been a wild ride ever since. The only thing I’m missing right now is my partner.”
