Meet the Stars of ‘Yellowstone’: A Spotlight on Season 5, Part 2’s Key Characters

Who takes on the roles of Beth, Rip, Kayce, and Wes in ‘Yellowstone’? Discover the cast for Season 5, Part 2

Warning: Spoilers for “Yellowstone” Season 5, Part 2 follow.

The gripping tale of the Dutton family, “Yellowstone,” made its return to the Paramount Network last week, drawing significant viewership following Kevin Costner’s exit from the series.

Part 2 of Season 5 debuted last Sunday, continuing to follow the Dutton family, who runs the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States, but without Kevin Costner, who portrayed the patriarch, John Dutton III.

The series description highlights, “As alliances shift, unsolved murders linger, old wounds resurface, and respect is hard-fought – the ranch constantly clashes with neighboring interests, including a growing town, an Indian reservation, and the nation’s first national park.”

This latest chapter, touted as “the epic, final chapter of ‘Yellowstone’,” began with emergency personnel responding to a situation at Governor John Dutton’s mansion. His daughter, Beth, rushes up to the responders, followed by her brother, Kayce. They break through police barriers to investigate and discover a handgun on the bathroom floor and blood surrounding John’s lifeless body, though his face is hidden. John’s fate is now sealed.

What led to Kevin Costner’s departure from ‘Yellowstone’?

In June, Costner revealed he would not return for the latter part of Season 5.

Costner stated in an Instagram video, “I want to inform you that I’ll be stepping away.” This announcement coincided with Paramount Network announcing a November 10 premiere date for the final episodes of “Yellowstone.” Costner’s notice came after filming had already started in Montana, where he portrayed the fictional governor.

The actor’s departure followed a protracted dispute with creator Taylor Sheridan concerning aspects like control, remuneration, and shooting timetables. However, he will be seen in flashback scenes, utilizing footage that had been shot previously, director and frequent Sheridan collaborator Christina Voros shared with YSL News earlier.

Although Costner has exited the series, the following is a roster of the actors starring in Part 2 and their respective roles.

Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton

As the daughter of John Dutton, Beth plays a pivotal role in the story. She is married to Rip.

In an interview with YSL News, Reilly stated, “Beth is surrounded by two important men in her life, Rip and her father. From the start of the series, she has been fiercely loyal to her father, fighting relentlessly for him.”

Reilly noted that Beth, John’s most devoted child, will be crushed by her father’s passing.

“There’s a limit to what she can endure. He is everything to her,” Reilly expressed. “What will this do to her? It’s likely to unleash a storm within her.”

Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton

Kayce, John’s son, oversees the family ranch and estate.

Wes Bentley as Jamie Dutton

As John’s adopted son and the attorney general of the state, Jamie is known for his scheming. At the end of the previous season, he partnered with his girlfriend Sarah to initiate impeachment actions against his father. Following John’s death, Beth begins to suspect that Jamie might be responsible for the family patriarch’s demise.

Cole Hauser as Rip

Rip is married to Beth and is the son-in-law of John. He shows unwavering loyalty to both the Dutton family and their ranch.

During Part 2 of the final season, Rip is transporting cattle from Yellowstone to Texas as a deadly brucellosis outbreak threatens the herd, when he receives a frantic call from Beth about her father’s passing.

Ian Bohen as Ryan

Ryan works as a cowboy at the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and also as a livestock agent. In the first half of Season 5, he starts a relationship with Abby (Lainey Wilson), but he chooses to end it when he learns he must go to Texas with Rip.

Dawn Olivieri as Sarah Atwood

Sarah Atwood is a lawyer and the girlfriend of Wes, involved in his scheming. In the series premiere, it is revealed that she was part of a plan to kill John.

Kelsey Asbille as Monica Dutton

Monica is married to Kayce.

Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater

Thomas Rainwater serves as the chairman of the Confederated Tribes of Broken Rock, leading the nearby Broken Rock Indian Reservation. Although he initially had conflict with the Duttons, he may be considering joining forces with them against Market Equities, provided John meets his demands regarding ancestral land and the safety of the reservation.

Jacki Weaver as Caroline Warner

Caroline Warner leads Market Equities and orchestrates the opposition towards the Dutton family and their ranch.
