Melania Trump’s Inauguration Day Ensemble: A Fashion Statement That Will Capture Global Attention

Whatever Melania Trump chooses to wear on Inauguration Day, it will certainly attract attention. Here’s why.

Melania Trump, soon to be the First Lady again, is renowned for her bold fashion statements, and her husband’s upcoming second inauguration will be no exception.

Originally from Slovenia, the former model captured public attention in 2017 with her extravagant fashion selections upon entering the East Wing.

From a gown for the inaugural ball that was essentially priceless and a luxurious $51,000 coat, to a $39 jacket emblazoned with “I really don’t care, do u?” during a visit to a migrant detention facility, Melania has a flair for making impactful appearances.

“Everyone appreciates a memorable fashion moment, regardless of political preferences,” noted style expert Lauren A. Rothman in an interview with YSL News.

Here’s what you need to expect before her outfit is unveiled on Inauguration Day.

What outfit will Melania choose for the inauguration ceremony?

Since leaving the White House in 2021, sightings of Melania have been infrequent and are expected to remain so, even after her return on Monday. The 54-year-old, mother to 18-year-old Barron Trump, plans to divide her time between New York and Florida during Trump’s second term, indicating her public appearances will be few and far between.

“We don’t often hear much from her,” Rothman stated. However, “we recognize her through her style choices and non-verbal cues.”

Her fashion choices are especially significant during a historic event like the inauguration of a former president with a criminal record, as Melania is expected to convey themes of patriotism and self-assuredness.

Rothman, who has styled inaugural guests and high-profile clients for over two decades, believes that Melania’s anticipated retreat from political life may influence her fashion presence, making her appearances at inaugural events even more crucial.

“I believe some standards will shift, and she’s likely to embrace that positively, reshaping how she presents herself,” Rothman added. “This might mean adopting styles that reflect her role as a concerned mother, guiding her son through college and maintaining his privacy, rather than always dressing in the traditional skirt suit.”

While Melania’s outfit remains under wraps, Rothman predicts it will be “dynamic.” She forecasts a potential “Americana moment” reminiscent of her 2017 look, a striking splash of color, tailored to handle the chilly D.C. weather.

“This time, she won’t be a mere mannequin,” Rothman emphasized. “She is focusing on her life, which dictates that she won’t be residing in the White House constantly.”

‘She’s rewritten the rules, much like her husband’

Modeling a custom powder-blue cashmere dress by Ralph Lauren, Melania evoked the style of Jackie Kennedy at her husband’s first inauguration in 2017.

Accompanied by coordinated suede gloves and heels, the then-46-year-old sported a matching blue cropped jacket with an elegant updo. The price of her dress remains undisclosed.

For the Inaugural Ball, her stylist, French-American designer Hervé Pierre, crafted an elegant off-the-shoulder, high-slit gown complemented by a silk red belt, which now resides in the National Museum of American History. This gown is deemed priceless.

“She has shattered traditional norms, similar to her husband’s approach as president,” remarked Kate Andersen Brower, author of “First Women: The Grace and Power of America’s Modern First Ladies,” in her conversation with YSL News.

Despite the recent election where many voters were concerned about economic issues, Brower doubts Melania will choose to lower her fashion standards to resonate with the public more.

“I really don’t anticipate her opting for more affordable clothing, as she has never followed that path,” Brower commented. “For her, adopting a simpler style might feel like sacrificing her identity as First Lady.”

Even while promoting herself to middle-class and working-class voters, the Trumps have maintained their luxurious lifestyle, which polls suggest they didn’t need to alter to remain popular.

“Are they going to sell Mar-a-Lago for a condo in Palm Beach?” Brower quipped. “I don’t think she wants her personal freedom and fashion decisions to be limited.”

While many may not be able to afford her fashion, Melania has been seen as a symbol of strength and style for Americans ever since Martha Washington. Especially among Trump supporters, Brower suggests, Melania embodies a contemporary archetype of elegance.

“Melania holds an aspirational image for many of Trump’s voters, who view her as the epitome of an ideal woman. Consequently, there’s pressure on her to maintain that image.”
