Michael Strahan announces the arrival of his first grandchild

During “Fox NFL Sunday,” Michael Strahan, age 52, shared the exciting news that his oldest daughter, Tanita Strahan, has given birth to a baby boy, Onyx.

Michael Strahan, the host of “Good Morning America,” can now proudly add “grandfather” to his impressive list of achievements.

On “Fox NFL Sunday,” Strahan, 52, received heartfelt congratulations from his fellow analysts as he welcomed this new addition to his family.

“Congrats, grandpa!” exclaimed fellow NFL legend and commentator Howie Long at the beginning of the segment.

With his fists raised in celebration, Strahan joyfully confirmed, “Yes, I am a grandfather, everyone.” He shared that his oldest daughter, Tanita Strahan, had her first child, a son named Onyx.

He expressed how meaningful it is to join his peers in this new experience, stating, “It’s really special because I know you guys have gone through this, and now I’m just happy to be able to join you in that club.” When asked about his daughter’s well-being, he replied, “Everybody’s good.”

The former New York Giants star, a Super Bowl champion and Pro Football Hall of Famer, shares his daughter Tanita and son Michael Strahan Jr. with his ex-wife Wanda Hutchins. He also has twin daughters, 19-year-old Isabella and Sophia Strahan, with ex-wife Jean Muggli Strahan.

Earlier this year, Isabella Strahan appeared on “GMA” to discuss her battle with medulloblastoma, a type of brain cancer, which she was diagnosed with in the fall of 2023. After suffering from headaches, nausea, and balance issues, an MRI conducted in October revealed a golf ball-sized tumor, leading to emergency surgery to remove it.

During that time, Strahan was away from “GMA” for three weeks due to “some personal family matters.”

By the time Isabella shared her cancer journey on “GMA,” she had completed 30 rounds of radiation. After finishing four rounds of chemotherapy in June, she proudly announced that she was “cancer-free” in July.

Michael Strahan reflected on the experience, noting, “You learn that you’re probably not as strong as you thought you were when you have to really think about the real things, and I realized that I need support from everybody.”

“People see me as the athlete, the tough guy; they think I can handle everything and that I’m the family’s protector,” he added. “But it’s not about any of that. It has really changed my perspective on many aspects of my life.”
