Mike Holmgren named as finalist for 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame coaching category
Mike Holmgren is a strong contender for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The ex-coach of the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks has been announced as the coaching finalist for the Hall’s 2025 class, as per Tuesday’s announcement. Joining him are contributor finalist Ralph Hay, along with senior finalists Maxie Baughan, Sterling Sharpe, and Jim Tyrer.
Holmgren earned this recognition over eight other semifinalists, which included notable names like Mike Shanahan and Tom Coughlin. He achieved Super Bowl success with the Packers in Super Bowl 31 and appeared in the Super Bowl two additional times—once with the Packers the following year and again with the Seahawks during the 2005 season. This accomplishment makes him one of only seven coaches in history to lead two different teams to the Super Bowl. Under his leadership, the Packers made it to the playoffs six out of his seven seasons (1992-1998).
The announcement for the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class will take place on February 6 during the “NFL Honors” event in New Orleans, coinciding with Super Bowl 59. To be inducted, the five finalists must secure at least 80% approval from the entire selection committee. Out of these five, only three will be inducted, with at least one spot guaranteed for a finalist.
On December 28, the pool of 25 modern-era semifinalists will be trimmed down to 15.
