Mike Tyson reveals he dropped 26 pounds due to an ulcer and shares shocking details of his health scare
A Netflix documentary ahead of the Nov. 15 boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul has revealed some troubling details.
Tyson, who had an ulcer flare-up causing a three-month delay for the fight, shared the story of his frightening medical incident.
The trouble started during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles on May 26, as reported by Tyson, the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion.
“I went to the restroom and ended up throwing up blood,” Tyson recounted in “Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson.” “The next thing I knew, I was on the ground. I was expelling tar-like stool,’’
The painful cause was identified as a 2.5-inch bleeding ulcer, according to Tyson.
He wasn’t entirely caught off guard, as seen in the three-part documentary, with the first two episodes set to release this Thursday.
Reflecting on the days leading up to the incident, Tyson mentioned, “I felt great for a week and a half, and then all of a sudden, I started feeling exhausted and I told my trainer, I’m not sure what’s going on with me.”
After arriving at Los Angeles International Airport, Tyson was taken to a hospital, where he stated he lost 26 pounds due to the ulcer.
“Can you believe that?” he questioned.
However, the weight loss was not his only concern during this time.
“I asked the doctor, ‘Am I going to die?’ ” Tyson recalled. “She didn’t say no. Instead, she mentioned, we have options. That made me uneasy,”
By late July, Tyson was back in intense training, confirmed by his agent Andrew Ruf to YSL News Sports. Tyson has insisted that he’s in good health overall.
