MLB playoffs: Wild card standings and current division rankings for 2024

(Latest update after games on Sept 18)

The 2024 season of Major League Baseball is nearing its conclusion, and playoff positions are still up for grabs.

The wild-card competition is intensifying in both leagues, with several teams within just a few games of one another. In the National League, the Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Mets, and Atlanta Braves are battling for the second and third wild-card spots, with Atlanta currently outside of playoff contention.

“We’re definitely in the race to qualify, and it will probably come down to just one play, one pitch. That’s what the playoffs are about,” said Mets infielder Jose Iglesias on Monday.

Playoffs kick off on Tuesday, Oct. 1, featuring a best-of-three wild-card series – two series in each league.
