A body was found in the wheel well of an aircraft that landed in Hawaii on Christmas Eve.

The United Airlines flight coming from Chicago touched down at Kahului Airport in Maui on Tuesday, where the body was discovered within one of the main landing gear sections, according to a statement from the airline to YSL News on Wednesday.

“Access to the wheel well was only possible from the exterior of the aircraft. We are currently unsure how or when the individual managed to get to that area,” the statement noted, emphasizing that the airline is cooperating with law enforcement regarding the investigation.

The Maui Police Department informed YSL News on Wednesday that it is “actively looking into the case involving a deceased individual on a flight arriving from the mainland.”

At this moment, police are not releasing any more details.
