It’s a boy: Naomi Biden, the granddaughter of Joe Biden, celebrates the arrival of her first child
WASHINGTON ― President Joe Biden celebrated the birth of his first great-grandchild on Wednesday as his eldest granddaughter, Naomi Biden, welcomed a baby boy at a hospital in wildfire-stricken Los Angeles.
Biden announced the joyful news following a briefing with local and state officials addressing the severe wildfires in Los Angeles, the city where Naomi lives.
“The wonderful news is that I’m a great-grandfather today,” Biden stated. “A 10-pound, 4-ounce baby girl,” he mentioned, before quickly correcting himself. “Baby boy.”
First Lady Jill Biden shared a photo from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where the couple was seen holding the newborn, named William Brannon Neal IV.
President Biden and his son Hunter Biden, who is Naomi’s father, visited the hospital for the birth before heading to the fire briefing. The president spent approximately 40 minutes at the hospital, accompanied by Hunter Biden’s wife, Melissa Cohen Biden, and their son, Beau.
In an exclusive conversation with YSL News prior to his Los Angeles trip, Biden had mentioned that Naomi was scheduled for a C-section on Wednesday.
“I’m on the verge of becoming a great-grandfather, oh my gosh,” he said with a grin during a discussion at the White House last Sunday.
Biden is thought to be the first sitting president to become a great-grandfather while in office, with his presidential term ending in less than two weeks.
Biden’s trip to Los Angeles coincidentally came amidst the ongoing wildfires; originally, he had planned to dedicate two new national monuments in the Eastern Coachella Valley. However, those plans were canceled on Tuesday due to severe winds and wildfires.
After the briefing on Wednesday, the president also noted that Hunter Biden’s home in Los Angeles seemed to have escaped damage after concerns that it might be destroyed by the nearby flames.
Naomi Biden works as a lawyer and tied the knot with attorney Peter Neal on the South Lawn of the White House in November 2022, a historic event as it was the first time a sitting president’s grandchild was married at the White House.
Joe and Jill Biden are grandparents to seven children. Hunter Biden has four daughters and a son, while Beau Biden, who tragically passed away in 2015 due to brain cancer, has a daughter and a son.
