International travel appears to have decreased by 4% this year compared to 2023, likely due to rising expenses. As per AAA booking stats, international travel costs for Labor Day weekend 2024 are up by 11% from 2023.

Seattle is a favored destination this year, with bookings to the Emerald City climbing nearly 30% from the previous year, according to AAA. Some visitors will also head to Alaska, with Anchorage and Juneau ranking high among popular end-of-summer spots.
“This time of year is perfect for Alaskan cruises,” stated Paula Twidale, senior vice president of AAA Travel, in a press release. “Fewer crowds compared to earlier summer and a chance to see early fall colors make for a great experience! It’s not surprising that Alaska cruises are fully booked this Labor Day weekend.”

Vancouver, just north of the border, is the most sought-after international location, according to AAA. Other popular European cities include Rome, London, Paris, Dublin, and Amsterdam.
The Busiest Times for Driving During Labor Day Weekend 2024
Expect the most traffic on the roads during the afternoons of Thursday, Aug. 29, and Friday, Aug. 30, along with early evening and morning on Saturday, Aug. 31. Travelers heading home should plan for the heaviest congestion on the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 1, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., as well as on Monday, Sept. 2, and the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 3.
“Travelers should prepare for significant traffic jams before the holiday weekend, as commuters will be mixing with vacationers,” said Bob Pishue, a transportation analyst at INRIX. “Using traffic apps, local news, and 511 travel services can aid in avoiding congestion and help reduce frustration for drivers during Labor Day.”
