Changes to Mexico Travel: Adjustments for Flight and Cruise Disruptions
Hurricane Helene is anticipated to reach the U.S. as a Category 3 storm on Thursday, already causing travel disruptions.
According to the National Hurricane Center, “Hurricane and tropical storm conditions are anticipated over the northeastern areas of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico today, and Tropical Storm and Hurricane Warnings are in effect.”
Travelers going to or returning from Mexico might experience changes in their travel schedules. While U.S. flights have not yet been notably affected, 12% of flights to Cancun have been canceled, and around 14% have faced delays, as reported by online flight tracker FlightAware. For flights originating at Cancun, 16% have been canceled, with 19% delayed.
Airlines are starting to offer waivers, and cruise companies are altering their routes.
