Overview of the Presidents Cup

The Presidents Cup features a team of American golfers competing against an International team from across the globe (excluding Europe). The U.S. golfers face their European counterparts in a different biennial event known as the Ryder Cup.

This tournament first took place in 1994 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia, and its venue alternates between locations in the U.S. and abroad.

A unique aspect of the Presidents Cup is that it does not offer any monetary prizes, and players do not receive payment for their participation. Instead, golfers contribute a share of the revenue generated to support charities of their choice. So far, more than 475 charities across 18 countries have benefited, raising over $56.4 million.

When does the Presidents Cup kick off?

The 2024 Presidents Cup begins on Thursday, September 26, starting with the opening ceremony and the first round of matches (four-ball). Weather permitting, the event will wrap up on Sunday, September 29, with the final round of matches (singles).

Where is this year’s Presidents Cup held?

This year, the Presidents Cup will be hosted at the Royal Montreal Golf Club, located in Île Bizard, Quebec, which is approximately 20 miles west of downtown Montreal.

Who are the Presidents Cup captains?

The U.S. team is captained by Jim Furyk, while the International team is led by Mike Weir.
